Hi everyone

I have just today purchased and started to brew the Geordie winter warmer brew kit. All went well and is now in the FV!

Has anyone used this kit before? What were the results?

Thanks

Didnt know they did a winter warmer kit, have just put the muntons winter warmer on myself

Its sitting in my primary now, brewed it on thursday. Havnt had it before but heard alot of good things about it, smelled fantastic going into the bucket though, reckon its going to be a good brew by the time christmas rolls around. Geordie kits are made by muntons aswell so i would guess it will be similar, just a one can kit instead of 2.

id imagine the only difference would be that my kit has 2 cans of malt and the geordie kit has one, the contents of the can are probably the same

yeh would be an intersting comparison, make sure you post a topic about it!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but was considering getting this to brew for christmas...

Now, since it appears this only comes out at about 3.8% abv, and I'm used to winter beers being higher abv (about 6% or higher), I was considering doubling up the cans to make a stronger version of this, and probably a bit of golden syrup...

So, has anyone who's made this actually tried it yet? What was it like? Any good? A nice wintry pint? Would a double can of this taste a little too spicy/over? Would I be better to just buy the 1 can and brew short to something like 14 litres with a bit of dme of sugar or something?

Any ideas from peeps would be appreciated :)

Rather than buying 2 kits of that i would get yourself the Santas Winter Warmer, it's a nice strong wintery pint and you could also add some extra spices to it too

Thanks, but the problem is, no local home-brew shop... Other problem, with working, getting things delivered are a nightmare! Hence, have to rely on wilkos, tesco etc until I have time off work when I know I'll be at home... Thinking might just be easier to buy the 1 can and brew quite a bit shorter. But then, if I'm going through all the hassle of bottling etc, I'd prefer the higher return for only a little bit extra work :p

How about brewing it with a kilo of dark dry malt extract, or 500g Dark + 500g medium as well as what the kit recommends? Wilkos sell the DME and it would add a useful amount of flavour. An additional kilo of DME should add a good 1.5% strength to the brew...

Well, sounds a plan. But when you take in to account the cost of the dme, you're talking another £8. For just £3 more, I could just get the double tin... I suppose I could spend an extra £1 and just use dme, but thought the tin might be easier, and wondered whether it would add a nice flavour note with it being stronger... I dunno, lol

True, but you might find that it's overly bittered if you use two kits.

Just using DME (i.e. no can) won't give you any bittering at all, so you'd need to add hops and boil it for at least an hour to extract the required bitterness. At that point you are extract brewing!

Two kits will do the job strength wise, but I think you'll get a rounder more "winter warming" flavour from the can + recommended sugar/kit enhancer + DME rather than the extra kit.

So my recommendation would be:

Can
1kg brewing sugar or Beer kit enhancer (whatever is recommended on the can)
1kg dark DME.

That should be a goodun...

Well, picked this up earlier today... Gonna go for the 1kg of beer enhancer, 500g dark some, and 500g golden syrup... Might brew a little short to 20 or 21 litres...

All brewed up, and fermenting away. Smell wasn't too appetising, I must say. However, the sample from the jar when took og was quite pleasing. Og came out at 1.058. So, hopefully will get something around 5.5 to 6%

Will let you know how it goes.

Wasn't the best... The coopers Julebryg I made was much better. The body in this wasn't too bad, but the taste in it was very homebrewy, even 7 months after it hadn't dissipated. However, the Julebryg turned out really nice...
