I all i have made a Muntons pilsner, and last night was my first test, when i cracked open 2 bottles they were VERY lively to say the least....i could not pour them because basically i got a pint of froth...i had to let them calm down for a little and ended up poring the sediment in as i had to pour it in bit by bit.

I am guessing i have put too much sugar in when priming, although i only used 1 teaspoon per bottle as always.

Is there anyway i can pour these bottles without getting to much of a head on them? is there a technique i can try?

Thanks all

Chris

Another trick to try, is to gently open the screw top to let the built up pressure out . . . then squeeze the bottle to reduce the remaining airspace, and let the gas come out of solution to fill this . . . you may have to do it a couple of times, but doing this and then chilling to serve will help.

Get a big jug, and decant the beer into the jug in one go . . . then pour into glasses

no will try putting them in the fridge..will this calm them down??
Yes, calms them down a lot as more CO2 is held in solution.

Although I like my ales cool but not cold, one of mine has turned out to be a gusher and I can't open and pour it cleanly unless I chill it.
