Hi everyone, first post here and it's a question that's been rattling around my head this week.
What would happen if you connected a PET bottle to a corny with the amount of sugar (yeast and water) to prime the keg but let the co2 diffuse into the beer instead of priming in the traditional way by adding it directly to the keg?

Has anyone tried it?

Ignore pressure rating of PET bottles and other variables for the moment I'm just interested to see if it'd work in theory.
 
You would still carbonate the beer, but probably your pet bottle with the sugar in it would ferment up too the point where the alcohol content would inhibit the yeast. Plus, if you have a keg setup it sounds more work than just connecting your CO2 cylinder.

Definitely an in interesting idea through!
 
Would be easier to just prime the keg as you would if bottle conditioning. I really can't see where there is any benefit from the extra work.

I do just this with my kegs you get a small amount of sediment in the first 100ml or so of beer but after that perfectly clear, (you also will have a thin layer of sediment at the bottom of the keg to clean out at the end).
