If you were to take an oldish pre-existing big garden shed and convert it to an AG brewery, what would you do to the insides of it to give you the best chances of avoiding flying or crawling infection sources?

graysalchemy's points about keeping clean of spillage and overflowed worts seems like good common sense but what else should I think about before I build? Gloss painted walls? Vinyl flooring?

You need to get your self a few of these ......

I bought a cheap one from aldi the other year and it had no effect on the fruit fly, but many years ago I had a similar one in Midge City Scotland and it worked fantastic against midges, so I suspect that fruit flies are not attracted to UV light only fermenting yeast. :hmm:

Several cans of fly spray 1 wife or partner 1 big whip.

Make every surface washable, with either gloss or vinyl silk emulsion paint. Make sure the floor can be mopped or scrubbed ( vinyl ) and make sure all the edges are sealed with something like silicone sealant or wood strips and varnish, so you can get a mop on it and give it a good clean with disinfectant a plenty.
All hand brewing equipment stored away in plastic boxes with lids. Place a few of those yellow sticky insect strips up that gardeners use in the greenhouse.
Once a year empty the shed or cover large equipment and set off one of those greenhouse insect smoke bombs to help clear out overwintering bugs.
Or do what they did in the olden days keep the doors open and have a rolled up newspaper handy.
They made plenty of good beers before disinfectants ( but I guess they lost a lot too )

 Not sure I want to know more about this...

Good point on the sealing - brother in law's a carpet fitter so I could probably get him to do a proper "up the walls" fit like they do in hospitals and stuff...

I have every intention of this being a really neat brewery - a place for everything...
