The river next to my allotment has already flooded - much earlier than normal.
Here on the Somerset Levels, we're quite used to it, but it is worrying how early it's started.

Its happened so may times before many residents now have flood gates etc, it must be awful seeing levels rise knowing you cannot do anything more to stop it.

Lots of flooded roads here in the Lakes several are closed but most passable with care.
Another week starts with a yellow warning

I went through several patially flooded roads on my may to work yesterday. After one of them, I kept hearing a scraping sound from the nsf wheel. It turned out to be a part of the plastic underfloor trim that had become bent back on itself and was scraping against the road, caused by the water pressure as I went through the puddle.

I don't think there was a day last week where it didn't rain the weekend has been a washout but its supposed to be dry on Tuesday.

I've not had to panic so far, even though I'm in that "yellow" warning area next to a river. Being upriver (a tributary too) I only worry about the flash downpours, Bangor-on-Dee get it for persistent rain (and probably are getting it). So my £5-6,000 of flood defence work completed a few days ago won't get tested this time.
The floods here do get "murderous", but the poor soul who got it about 10-11 years ago really shouldn't have been attempting to drive home from the Pub!

3 dead and one in intensive care, rescued from the Cleddau in Haverfordwest. PADDLE BOARDING if you can believe it!
One of our members was involved in the search and removing the bodies he posted how awful it was earlier in the private forum so I won't mention his name.

Three paddleboarders have died and one is in a critical condition after a group got into difficulty in a river.
Dyfed-Powys Police said two women and a man died at the scene another woman remained in hospital following the incident on the River Cleddau in Haverfordwest on Saturday morning.
They were part of a group of nine adults who travelled to Pembrokeshire for a paddleboarding excursion.
Town councillor Thomas Tudor, who paid tribute to rescuers' efforts, said he had been told the incident followed an "out-of-the-blue downpour".
"It would appear that, unfortunately, the paddleboarders were caught up in that downpour which led to this tragedy," he said.

Regards to flooding. Its interesting reading looking into the name places in York. Most refer to wet/river/boggy/flooding etc mostly named by the vikings and dating back to about 1000 years. Research will find references to where the vikings built their homes and shops and to places that they didn't...because of flood risk. The river Ouse is called such as it "oused" out into the surrounding country side.
Most of these areas have been covered with concrete and buildings...and flood.
No lessons learned there.

River's silted up, drains blocked. We're gonna get flooded. I remember it Raining like this when I was a kid, and no flooding. Some grids in our town are blocked solid upto the top...
