I was just wondering have any of you either done or thought about using flavoured still water while brewing certain lagers/beers and especially ciders.

I drink alot of these and can see them adding a nice fruity edge to certain brews. Tesco's are doing 3 x 1 litre bottles for a pound.
Is this something that could work? Would it have to be still or could you use sparkling?
Plus the empty bottles could then be used to bottle up, obviously after being cleaned and sanitised.

Never tried it, Tommoleeds, but it's something I'd be doubtful of. I'm all for experimenting on a small scale and scaling up if it works. Aren't these flavoured waters flavoured with chemical flavourings?

I haven't thought about it as I'd use fruit teabags instead.

Issues I could see is if there's preservatives or problems with pH. Looking it up fizzy pop can have a pH from 2.5 to 3.5 an apparently yeast don't much like to go below 4. I'm guessing the pH would rise as the co2 vented off but no idea by how much. Don't quote me on any of this, though as I'm just googling.

If you do it I'd be really interest to see how it goes.

The tesco's 1 i drink doesnt say flavourings, as for the sparkling i dont think id risk it but i may give it a whirl in the future with a still 1.

@Drunkula, i'm only thinkin of adding a litre or 2 so i cant see it altering the ph of 19-20 litres more!

Will a 5-10% addition make any difference to the flavour?
