Flat Spot for Elements

I’ve got a couple of 1 inch BSP 3kw Dernord screw in type elements to install into some 50l pots. Is anybody making a flat spot it their pots prior to drilling the hole to get a better seal or am I over thinking it?

The skin of the pot will flex slightly as you tighten and the washers will form a good seal no need to worry about the curvature of the pot
