Brewing tomorrow and fancy doing a beer with Flaked Barley and Torrified in, is this an acceptable combo? :hmm:
Will the barley add to the flavour or just add more body? how much flaked would you guys recommend in a 46L brew?

BB ...I am bottling/kegging Bitter & Twisted Clone today and that has both Flaked Barley & Torrified Wheat (see recipe):-
46 litre at 66 degrees 90 min mash 80% Efficiency
8 KG Pale MO Pale Malt
600 Gms Flaked Barley
600 Gms Torrified Wheat
40 gms Crystal Malt

90 Gms Challenger - 80 mins Boil
80 Grms Hallertau Hersbrucker - 80 mins Boil
45 gms Styrian Goldings - Last 10 mins for Aroma

2 Pks SO 4 Yeast

SG 1045
IBU 36.9

Its very golden and malty with a nice hoppy taste

Will the barley add to the flavour or just add more body
:wha:
Perhaps someone more knowledgable on here than me can answer the above query - All I can say that it turned out really well for me - Its a bit lighter in colour than the real mccoy but similar in taste - malty and full bodied (needs 15 -20 gms more crystal next time) :thumb:

Ditch all the torrefied and just used flaked instead . . . much nicer beer

Never used wheat malt before, might give it a bash. :thumb:
What do you get from WM that's an improvement on TW??
I always use TW, I thought it was the dogs bollox for brewing :hmm:

It leaves a creamy sweet taste for me that I dont like, i was using it for head retention.

That's why I use it for a creamy top, never really noticed the sweetness.

Yep it's great for that :thumb: I just picked the sweetness up and found it didn't work for me.

Aleman told me that torrified wheat was like adding shreddies to your brew  I find wheat malt adds a bit of body and is great for head retention - haven`t found it over sweet though :thumb:
