I have exactly the same question; I use torrified wheat for head retention, but think it sometimes leaves a very faint shredded wheat taste and smell in the beer, can I just substitute flaked barley 1:1?
I've generally used about 200g in a 5kg grain bill. I haven't had problems with haze, and a small addition does seem to help head retention
 
I use 9% in my beers, which is over double what you use and dont get any haze from it
Good to know, but given that it is more expensive (at least from h and b) than base malt I'm aiming to use the least necessary to achieve the result I'm looking for, i.e. improved head formation and retention :thumb:

I usually buy a load when I buy my base malt, plus I've got a couple of LHBS not too far away
