Hi, Simonh82,

There is a good wiring diagram here (9 posts down [Dave1970]): http://forum.craftbrewing.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8156

The voltage regulator is from China, via Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NGBS340/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

The SSR is basically a switch; 12V input from the PID, 240V output to the voltage regulator (as it is a switch, the 240V side is live in, live out).

The voltage regulator outputs to the socket for the boiler.

I've incorporated an exhaust fan to take the heat away from the heatsink - you can avoid this by mounting the heatsink outside the control box.

This sounds almost exactly like what I want to do. If you've got any more details of your build I'd be interested.

Hi!
I found a wiring diagram that I "drew" in the planning stage.
It doesn't include the voltage regulator - that goes before the socket.
AFAIK this is electrically safe - at least I haven't killed myself using it.

@Simonh82 - reviving an old thread here!

Got myself a 20L Buffalo as well for sparge water heating. Was thinking about getting a cheap weldless thermometer (~£12 on eBay) to mount in the front, so I know when I've reached the correct sparge temp.

What sort of setup have you got with yours? I don't really want to be in and out the top with a digital thermometer every 5-10mins towards the end of the mash if you get me?

I just use my digital thermometer. I don't worry too much about hitting a precise temperature as I only use it for sparge water at the moment. If you want to avoid having to check the whole time a possible cheap alternative is this thermometer from Ikea. It has a lead long enough that you can hang it into your kettle and you can set an alarm so that if it goes over a certain temp it will beep. I used one for a couple of years before I spilt wort on it one too many times and it started going a bit flaky.

Cool Simon, thanks!
