I have got myself a few new corny kegs. Is it advisable to wash them with PBW for first use or would sanitising be ok? Also if I do need to wash with PBW do I need to dismantle the in and out posts or just run PBW through them?
Thanks in advance.

Depends on what type you got really as the missus bought a used o e for my birthday and it was minging and not pressurised so bad to c!ean, sanitize and replace all the o-rings though I had no poppet valves and have since ordered new replacements.
I then ordered a second hand reconditioned and it was spotless, polished, pressurised and immaculate on the i side so just had to sanitize.
To be fair the missus didn't know and it was a surprise so refurb cronies are definitely better regarding cost, time and testing.[emoji106]

I always wash new SS kit with TSP solution to remove any residual grease from manufacturing. Then passivate with bar keepers friend and it's good to go. From then on only PBW after and Starsan before use.

You could oxi clean it then rinse very well I would take it apart just so you know how it is put together and how it works if it is your first. I do not strip down mine at all probably once a year for a inspection and just rinse out with hot water after use and store with a couple of litres of starsan, you can also use a small syringe to squirt cleaning fluid and starsan down the posts and dip tube. If you constantly strip them down for cleaning it is easy to strip the threads on the posts through tightening too much

Did you get from the HBC?
U know these are carefully cleaned and tested as this were I got mine though had to soak my first with oxiclean.
It is good to strip them down to see how they go together in case of any future issues as I've had.
It is spotless. Believe it to be reconditioned.

imho strip the keg down when you first get it for a deep clean and check/replace the orings and popetts..
Can you really trust anyone else when it comes to the sanitary storage of your valuable beer?? 40 minutes of work in advance could save a whole batch of beer :)

Just take care when re-attaching the posts as the keg/post connection thread is the weakest link in the design..

welcome to the shiny side ;)

I did this today with one of the kegs, which I will probably fill on Monday. I will do the other 2 together now that I know what I'm doing.
