Hi all,

Will be using protofloc on the weekend for the first time.. I'm Just looking for alittle advice.

On the pack it says 1 tablet per 5gal of wort, but I've read more than once, that people use a quarter of a tablet per 5gal..

Which is the correct amount, or what are the pros and cons of using one or the other? :wha:

Many thanks :thumb:

1//2 tablet or less at 10mins to go, fizzes up well so no need to crush. I found it causes the yeast to form floating cauliflower looking lumps in the FV. I’ve gone back to Irish moss as it works ok and doesn’t have any side effects

I’ve been using half a tablet but that’s probably too much (cauliflowers in the current FV).
I’m liking the idea of crushing them and then chucking in a weight, much more economical!

There's a topic...how do you cut your protofloc in half.....??
I've always found it easy to snap them in two inside the two inside the bag.

I used to use half a tablet per 10-12l batch, but have since always used a full tablet in 5 gallon brews. I did a course in a small brewery and watched / helped the brewer at certain stages, he used 5 or 6 protofloc tablets in a 1000l batch.
