Ok so here goes my first attempt at a WOW 😂

I've got demijohns coming out my ears so I've kicked off 3 at the same time.

All 3 have a base of RGJ and Apple (Both 100%).

I added up the sugars from each of the juice cartons and added sugar for a total of 1100g per gallon.

Dissolved the sugar to make a syrup solution of 1l. Added 3 tea bags to 300ml of water for my triple tea.

Added the RGJ, Apple and the other juice to each batch. Poured in the sugar solution followed by the tea, for a total volume of 4.3l in each.

Seems that the sugar info on the juice labels are a little under estimated (sure I've read that on here somewhere) because my OG is a tad higher than I expected but hoping will be ok.

Batch 1 - RGJ, Apple + Pineapple OG 1098

Batch 2 - RGJ, Apple + Prune OG 1108

Batch 3 - RGJ, Apple + Pear OG 1095 (I intentionally put 20g less sugar in than calculated)

Each batch got:
1 tsp Youngs Super Yeast
1 tsp Yeast Nutrient
1 tsp Pectolase

Demijohns are all on trays expecting an eruption, especially from the pineapple 😯

Keep you posted 👍

Never made a WOW and I'm not even sure what it is. I started off (1970 when I was 16) by making wine because I could forage the ingredients for free. I soon learned not to use an airlock until the primary fermentation had died down. Instead I put a small size freezer bag over the opening and held it in place with an elastic band and put the demijohn in a bucket- like your trays. I still can't resist making country wines even though I don't drink much of them due to preferring pints of beer.
Great photos and good luck with the wines.

That will be because its not 4.5 litres.

Keep us posted thumb.

SO you have taken the plunge then.athumb..

Your mixtures seem quite nice,I find the apple juice constitutes about 6% towards the final abv.

These days apple is the basis for most of my wows,I even add it to my "country" wines.

How are you making your mead,?
Will it be a beer or wine style,?

I prefer mine like a strong DRY wine of about 15% abv,Good for "sippin" rather than "gulping"

One wee tip dont forget the yeast nutrient,Honey has next to nothing in it for the wee beasties except sugar.

Post us some pics and info when you do it.

Speaking of acid dont forget to add some of that as well.

My water is super soft so i dont need much,But it does needed to be added at the very start.

I'm going with the sipping Mead 😂

My plan is:

3 (454g) jars of clear honey
1 tablespoon of dried fruit
1 teaspoon Youngs Super yeast
1 teaspoon Youngs yeast nutrient
Juice of 1 lemon

Plan to let it ferment out fully, then back sweeten to taste, if neccessary.

Sat having dinner last night and to my surprise I heard a bubble 😊 The Pear variant started off bubbling within 5 hrs 😯.

So today the pear is bubbling about every 5 seconds.

The prune has displaced the airlock water levels by about 1mm 😂, but no bubbles yet.

The pineapple hasn't done anything yet.

Ok time to sit back and be patient. That's them all bubbling. The pear started within 5 hrs, pineapple took about 18 hrs and the Prune took a full 24hrs to get going. What was weird was the Prune had started do the "lava lamp' but didn't start bubbling for another 4 hrs 😂

Prize for the biggest 'head' goes to the pineapple 😯

Each DJ is like a baby - they're all different but all the same......

The WOW I made with pineapple juice was one of the most impressive fermentations I've ever witnessed, the stuff was literally crawling out of the airlock 😂

Made a nice wine too, if I remember it was just one carton of pineapple and one of white grape juice (back when you could still get it), then the usual sugar solution and so on, quite pleasant to drink, had a Sauvignon Blanc type quality to it.

I need to get some more WOW on myself, bought the yeast and so on for it a while back, was going to do 5 gallons of the bog standard red grape and apple juice.

Anyway enjoy, it's a great thing to experiment with.

The is the famous Wurzels Orange Wine lava lamp (from the supermarket wine guide thread), this is day two if you watch the video from the point i cropped it you will see him go back an hour later and its coming out of the airlock.
