as iv started my old brown kit im on the hunt for smaller bottles as im not a lager drinker i dont have any. so as i had a few minutes free raided two of my local bottle bins both where about half full so couldn't reach any but as someone had left a box of empty's i help my self to 6 beck's bottles and 2 brown . its not much but a few more trips i will get there.

i would try some of my locals but as its been 2 years since iv drunk in them might be cheeky. anyway bin diving is more fun

I haven't drunk at our local yet, since moving in November. Not a great pub, but the glass bins are in its car park so I paid a visit!

there is a few pubs out in the sticks so might try them over the weekend. only want 40ish bottles. iv even put a shout on fb but most of my mates drink tins

I thought of doing this but didn't want to get caught out, could be embarrassing being seen by people who might know me, thought of buying some but bit pricey for empties so just resorting to asking friends and family, and buying extra beer, I too rarely drink in my local so don't really want to ask, might have try a bank raid when its dark.

:hat:

i wouldnt do it after dark. i went about 8 and it was very quite other than the boy racers.

anyway, bottles have been de-labelled and now sitting in a bleach bath

I was raiding a bottle bin outside a restraunt for champagne bottles

the concierge came out and ask what I was doing

I explaind to him I was making champers and needed bottles

so he told me he would keep them all for me and I could go and collect them

when raiding the bins I had to take half back due to chips and damage

also got a few cuts

much better to ask local bars and restraunts if you can have the empties

they are usually very helpful and you get better quality glass :thumb:

i know its not the best way of getting bottles but it will do until i can find a stash somewhere.

this is my last post as im saving my 600th for my baby girl

A few months back I found myself short of wine bottles when several demis all finished at once, and more recently I found myself short of beer bottles.
I'd been being picky with what I kept and what I chucked of the stuff that passes through the house, but running short has sent me the other way - I have something like 150 bottles of all sorts and sizes sanitised and waiting to be filled now...
Just don't throw anything away!

Once people realise your homebrew is worth having they soon save empties to trade for beer. :-)
Try giving out a few samples first and then say they can have more if they provide empty bottles. It works for Meth pushers (I'm told).

host a bring a beer bottle party :-)

My mate does this regularly, he's the onyl person I know who invites you to his house and then specifies what you have to bring to drink! at least he gives you the option to choose your beer, as long as it is in 500/568ml brown or green glass. Those who oblige are allowed to raid his stash when they run out. Those who don't generally don't appreciate good beer anyway so they are given cooking wine when they run out!!

:hat:

My local managed to give me about 80 kopperberg bottles in a few weeks, they didn't mind at all, I just gave them a couple empty boxes and said just put them in there till they're full and I'll be down on Monday at opening, always got full boxes !

Hah! I made 5gal of rosemary and bay ale that i bottled up. 2 visits to a local pub with a granny-trolley harvested 150 bottles! Enough for the brew and more!

Country pubs might just help you out over here, but I doubt you would find any town or city pubs in Northern Ireland willing to hand over a load of petrol bombs in kit form!!!

I'm currently in the process of collecting 500ml brown glass beer bottles for an intended kit brew shortly. I have found the best supplier is Sainsbury's, at the moment they sell 3 for £5 and pre fill them with Hobgoblin  I am thoroughly enjoying collecting my 50 bottles.... only 6 more to get

Not wishing to rain on your parade but Wychwood bottles prove notoriously difficult to cap with a twin lever capper :electric:

+1 On the Wychwood bottles unless you have a bench capper.

I have good results from local Indian restaurants who saved me all their 330ml and 660ml Cobra bottles.
Strong, brown, easy to delabel and cap easily :thumb:

And often worth asking for their mango chutney barrels too :thumb:

I love the look I get when people spot me trawling for bottles like a deranged brewdophile.

My local gives me some but both the bartenders I'm buds with are leaving soon, gonna have to befriend their replacements!

Sainsburys often have the same deal on for Black Sheep Ale (and many other ales too, but Black Sheep labels come off really easily).
