I should look to get a mesh network set up. Must be some good prices this time of year
The eero 6 system from Amazon is heavily discounted at the moment and seems to be well loved by many: https://amzn.eu/d/4mC3c7Z

For anything better you’d be paying £250+ for two units, and that is £140 for three.

One of my learning nuggets from having used 3 versions of mesh routers is that the ease of setup and software to update and support the mesh is more important than the devices themselves. The mesh network protocols are well established, with speeds then varying with how many bands each device cover. The firmware and software for the devices makes or breaks it for me. I had (and still have 5 linksys velop mesh routers (4 tri band 1 dual band) which worked ok but pairing the devices took about 10 to 15 minutes each, and the pairing software on my phone just gave too little feedback on what they were doing. I suspect part of the problem was that I was using them in bridge mode and really pushing the limits of what they could do.

Since I've had them sitting doing nothing in a corner of my office for most of the year - I'll offer them up free other than the cost of postage to anyone who wants them, pm me an address and I'll work out postage.

[EDIT - that's 3 of the triband ones claimed]

I believe that Mercusys is a budget brand from TP-Link, and FYI the Wifi 6 version is only £5 more: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mercusys-Coverage-Halo-H60X-3-pack/dp/B0CQHSQQM6/

I don't know these, but the problem with the cheapest mesh systems is usually that they don't have the onboard computing power to support a lot of devices or sustained data transfers.

If you're just annoyed that the house has wifi dead spots and you can't browse THBF when you're on the bog then they'll probably be fine.

Just changed to a hyper fibre link, 2Gbps up and down. Biggest difference was the WiFi 6 router, very fast WiFi for those capable of using it.
Any devices needing hi speed in the house are connected by cable.
The upgrade a little cheaper than my previous 1Gbps down and 250Mbps up.

Not sure what is going on here

What are the highest and lowest speeds you have seen on Wi-Fi?

Could i ask members who have moved to FTTP how much faster Wi-Fi speeds are compared to FTTC
In Scotland, at moment, there's a scheme where government will pay for cost of having FTTP installed.
Went for subsidised cosy, but guess that when copper house lines are ditched (already happening in many places), FTTP will have to be provided at no cost.

Copper was 35MB/sec (limited by long run from cabinet), £35 PCM, inc phone.
FTTP 100MB/sec £25 PCM. Higher speeds were offered, but not needed (only likely necessary, where several TVs are streaming different channels at once).

Didn't go for the 'landline' phone option (around £10 extra),. As it relies on having the Internet connnection, so doesn't work when there's a power cut (winter rolling power cuts, looking more certain now UK has scrapped backup coal power stations).

Cheaper to have a phone with a PAYG SIM as backup.

I called my provider (Plusnet) yesterday because our WiFi was constantly dropping out, second time in the last few weeks, and got the usual 'oh, it's probably the router (it's three years old, which is apparently antiquated) we'll send a new one out'.

But after a bit more conversation with the Plusnet guy, he said he'd check the WiFi remotely, he was a bit shocked that it was still functioning at all, we have fiber to cabinet guaranteed at something like 65mps which we now tax to the extent that it's almost unusable with fifty odd devices connected in the household.

I was a bit wary about going full fibre but it turns out it's guaranteed 300mps and cheaper than what I'm currently paying for a substandard fiber to cabinet.

So, safe to say, I'm in the process of upgrading!

I forgot to update this thread.

It only took an hour for the engineer to install the new fibre connection we then set up the eero router using the phone app (see video below)

We have the Full fibre 150 package and are getting these speeds below we went for the two year deal which is fixed at £29,95.
Get Full Fibre 150 for the same price as Full Fibre 65. Only £28 a month (18 month contract)* with no set-up fee and the award-winning Amazon eero router included. Monthly price increases every April by £3.

I don't think the one I am getting is the pro what is the difference?
Pro will go to 1000Mbps. The 6 will only do 500Mbps.
For anyone not involved in backing up/moving around media 500Mbps is plenty fast enough.
