First time using the FK chubby today, MYO AIPA kit, a regular & reliable brew.

Positives - lid is easier to remove than my all rounders.
Easier to pick up and give a good shake.

Nice linear volume scale due to straight sides.

Negatives - very difficult to stir with a regular long handled brewing spoon due to the narrow neck & deep body.
Impossible to see how much extract has pooled in the bottom (I’d put in 10 litres hitting water before adding the gloop). Had to rely on a good shake to mix any undissolved extract. I normally use a bag of enhancer but not this time.

I’ve swapped the standard prv with a 15psi one from Angel HB. FG is a low 1035 despite going short to 21litres suggesting there is some extract clinging to the base. Hopefully the usually vigorous fermentation will get some of this into solution.

I’m guessing this will be much better with an AG wort where no mixing is needed, kits may have to be pre mixed in a bucket first.

You shouldn't be putting any hot water in a chubby or any other PET fermentor!
Mix first in a separate vessel and then transfer to your Chubby.

I prefer to mix in a separate vessel anyway so that when I transfer I can give it a good aeration ! And you can be sure that you're thoroughly mixed.
I agree this is almost mandatory with the Chubby. My ARs are easy enough to mix in with a plastic paddle.

I was aiming for a minimum fuss quick brew - lesson learned, use one of my ARs for an extract quickie & keep the FKC for AG.
