Hi everyone,

new to the forum and was wondering if anyone bothers to syphon their beer after 3 or 4 days of initial vigorous fermentation, into another fermenter in order to get the brew off the yeast and avoid yeast bite?

I've noticed that Muntons recommend doing this with their kits.

To be honest i'm not sure how yeast bite can affect the flavour, or whether my previous brews have suffered with this or not.

Any advice much appreciated

in a word no. Its basically not worth the hassle and ive never even heard of yeast bite besides that it wouldnt do it any good especially if the yeast is bottom fermenting as you would leave all the good stuff in the bottom

I've never done it, I always leave my beer in the Primary fermenter, until its ready for kegging.

I wouldn't leave it on the yeast beyond 4 weeks, but some people have with no ill effects.

Not here the term yeast bite used for years, books it the 70s used to talk about it and if I remember right it was off flavours as a result of fermenting at to high temperature.

it's only a problem for long term storage mate. a few days after fermentation doesn't really matter, I let mine clear out on the yeast and then either keg or transfer to bottling bucket to bottle up straight away.
