Hi all, I'm having some issues with stuck fermentation. I know there have been a couple of other posts about this recently (all the hot weather, I guess), but my problem seems to be slightly different. Despite the hot weather my first couple of weeks went just fine, but the gravity has dropped down to 0.010 and hasn't budged for a week and a half. I tried giving the FV a bit of a shake last week, but it still hasn't dropped to the 0.006 recommended in my kit instructions.

Will this be safe to bottle, or will I need to do something to get the gravity down? Elsewhere I've seen giving a sugar boost as a recommended course of action, but that's where fermentation hasn't started or has stopped quite quickly. If so, how much sugar should I add, and should this be deducted when I come to add the priming sugar before bottling?

Cheers in advance!

Edit: it's now been in the FV for four weeks, hopefully that won't be an issue!

What is it you are brewing? 1.010 isn't too much of a shortfall from 1.006.

Cheers for replying so quickly :) It's from a kit, Uncle Teddy's Yorkshire bitter. Expected AVB of 4%, if that helps. The reason I'm concerned is that the kit warns that bottling above 1.006 could result in bottle bombs!

Is it the Beer Works Uncle Teddy's? If so their instructions say bottle or keg at 1010 or below.
You should be safe after 4 weeks in the FV.

You'll be safe to bottle as fermentation has stopped. And 1.010 will also be fine for a bitter.

It is the beerworks one yes - it's the instructions which come with the Hydrometer which say to wait for 0.006 sorry, not the kit instructions.

Cheers all, that's put my mind at rest. Time to bottle my first batch :D

A difference of 0.004 is well within my own error of judgement when reading a hydrometer.

At 1.010 I would bottle it ... :thumb:

... but if I had any doubts I would use a tad less priming sugar. e.g. 75 grams for 23 litres instead of 85 grams.
