It does a very poor job doesn't seal at all so don't get any bubbles through airlock and I know some people might be OK with that but I have ocd so it has to go

So at the moment I am using balliihoo fermentation buckets and frankly they suck ass, I would like a fermentation bucket with a nice air tight lid, does anyone have any recommendations please

23l or above

I'm sorry Mikey - I don't have any answers for you - but your post made me chuckle which is a good thing as I'm currently stuck at work!

I've used one of the screw top FV's for years, watch the o ring in the top after some use they come out of the lid and are easily dropped, I make a sausage of cling film and put that over the o ring to help seal it now, but its many years old and had plenty of use and whilst it still works I cannot be arsed to look for a new o ring.
.
Some people have ones like this with a tap and have had problems with the tap leaking but mine has been ok for years.

any vessel thats foodsafe you can clean and sanitise with confidence will work, i use some 4" neck 'wine fvs' similar to the one linked to and jerry cans, as both fit in my fridge while a bucket wont..

for larger batches i use a 80l SS thermopot..

I have a richies FV and i can turn it upside down with steriliser in it and it doesn't leak i also have a cheap one that does, i have noticed the difference is the richies one has a hard plastic solid lid (which takes a lot of effort to remove unlike the cheapo version) where as the cheap one is thin and floppy (for want of a better word)

I have found if i put something heavy like a 2 litre bottle of water in the middle of the cheap FV lid the airlock works.

I use the youngs screwy one too, bought it recently to compliment my coopers 'sit on lid' fv

Like them both, good seal on the youngs one

I've got one of them Youngs screw top FVs too. I wouldn't recommend it if you're 'big boned'. I can just about get my bicep in it for cleaning.
Other than that it's very sturdy.

reckon i must have 6 youngs buckets and 3 youngs FV, never had a problem with them for beer or wine or elder flower champagne, port, anything really.

Good price and work well

I go down the no scrub route... steep overnight with VWP, give it a good sloosh around and rinse well, comes out spotless

I noticed when cleaning my buckets that the cheap ones had some scratches on the bottom. I try to be really careful what i put in them but i guess its down to the flimsy soft plastic. Mine don't bubble either but you can tell their fermenting by the bulging lid. I have one of the screw top ones which is really good but more trouble to clean.

So ordered the youngs fermenter from tesco does anyone know if it comes with a stick on thermometer or should I order one?
