Feeling like a proud parent.

Don't get me wrong as my children make me feel proud as punch all the time but there are times when you feel especially proud like today.
My second oldest is in year 13 or lower 6th as some call it and recently received her achievement awards for last year and came top of her year overall.
Well my wife and I were so chuffed as she is a real hard worker and knows that she has to study hard as she wants to be a paediatric nurse but this morning she texted to say she had some really important news which was she has been chosen for a two week summer scheme in America no other than Yale,all expenses paid with the chance of a scholarship again all expenses paid.
Really feeling like the proudest father in the world as she has really worked so hard and so glad to see recognition from the school and the sponsors involved.
I've seen and heard it happen to others but when it comes home to one of your own it's amazing....

My eldest is in his last year at secondary school...whatever they call that now ..and got head boy!! We're really proud of him and get lots of comments on the way he conducts himself around the school and at the functions he attends as head boy and the with the people he meets.
Perhaps he doesn't try his hardest at his work but his results are good...he likes computer science and has attended a college one day a week for the last two years to do this. His class is a total of around 16 students chosen from all the local schools to do this...
A chip off the old block....not!!

It's amazing now compared to when we were younger and the level of commitment and self discipline for young people to progress and as parents all we can do is love, guide and reassure them along the way.

Well, I'd have a bigger house, a faster car, more beer, more tattoos, would have seen a lot more countries and experienced a lot more things... But you're right, they ain't too bad to have around.

Mrs MQ works for a charity that is heavily involved with the county lines drug running thing. She comes home with some absolute horror stories about young people getting caught up in that way of life

I think you're right here. Dunno where my kids get it from when I'm less than fully engaged with what I'm doing half the time. The world has changed, there's a lot of competition for the top spots, but what marks the good'uns out is that they have that work ethic inbuilt - running right through them - they aren't necessarily doing it as a means to an end, it's just the way they are. All credit to them.
