magnum elderflower cider, been in the cornie since 16th august as it was way too sweet and tangy to drink, it has mellowed and is now a decent wee cider to sup on at 5.3 %. i made the pear cider and it was drinkable right away, i was ready for emptying this out as it was taking up a cornie but im glad I left it.
anyways.....

conon i think that looks like a fail mate, its either too far away from the screen or your beer isnt clear enough! our survey said? eh eh!

Just drinking my single-malt-and-single-hop, vienna malt and cascade with kolsch yeast. Tastes amazing, just what I need to refresh me on this warm summers eve. I'm really impressed with how this turned out, just what I need to be drinking right now!
Had a bit of a problem with condensation on the glass but got there in the end. For some reason it looks a lot more orange in the photo than real life.

thats a good pass there SP. :D im just about to start my AG adventure next week, from the recipes I've read they all seems to have at least 2 if not 3 types of grain and 1 or 2 types of hop, is there any advantage or reason for just using 1 grain and 1 hop?

I know this test has been going since the year dot, but looking at V1’s avatar through my pint isn’t exactly conducive to enjoyment.
I would love to see a more evocative test!
I presume I’m in a minority of 1 again.

Most of my all grains to date have used a variety of grains and a few hopd varieties, and my recipes were either ones I'd found online/ in books or ones I'd cobbled together based on other peoples recipes. This approach worked fine for me and I've brewed good beers, but I found I wasnt really getting to know the ingredients very well, so wasnt really getting good at making my own recipes up. So that was the main reasons for doing my SMASH brews - to make a bunch of simple brews with the same yeast and the same hops, but the only difference being the malt. I've only done 3 so far, all with kolsch yeast and cascade (although its not overly hoppy), but with a different base malt - vienna malt, dark munich, and dingermans 2-row. The 3 beers have all turned out great, very drinkable, and its good to compare them knowing the difference is all down to the malt.

I suspect I'll now do a bunch more SMASH brews all with a vienna base malt but different hops, or maybe start switching out a % of the base malt for different speciality malts to see how they compare....

To be honest though, I really like the simplicity of the SMASH brews, and am pleasantly suprised at how good they are considering how simple the recipe. :thumb:
