I've got my bin in the shed. Which holds a constant temp of 20c but the bin itself is at 23c according to my stick on aquarium thermometer. Which I measured against my dip in thermometer and it's pretty accurate.
Is this too warm as the kit says between 18 and 20c but another thread I've read on same kit says 23c is fine.
It's not doing much the bubbler ain't bubbling.

Cheers :drink:

Yeah i'd try and get it down a couple of degrees, has the shed got a window that you can open during the day?
I dont go by airlocks the only way to get a real idea of what's happening is to use your hydrometer

It's a youngs brew buddy bitter kit. Bog standard nothing added. Was a freebee so did it to test the gear more than anything. It's in the shed with a heater that has a thermostat, which I have turned down to 18c now. Last reading on thermometer was about 22c so it's coming down slowly. Although nothing is happening no bubbles in bubblers or in the brew itself. Hopefully will be a fizzin tomo!

Cheers :drink:

Sounds like it's nearly done mate. How long has it been in the fermenter? Whats the gravity reading?

yeah was going to say have had to wait 36 hrs before i saw any activety before but good to hear that its started :D

The initial stages are the most crucial regarding temp. As the yeast grow they produce heat, so sometimes when you have a heater on at an ambient temp the actual tempo of the wort is much higher. The problem with this is that the yeast will start producing fusal alcohols which is not what you want. They make the beer solventy and cause hangovers.

However if your temp is too low fermentation doesn't start fast enough leaving the wort open to infection from wild yeast and bacteria.
