Hi all,

I'm an expat living in Italy and after a break of about 7 years of home brewing I'm back on the case.

Got a Brupak Linthwaite light in the FV and after reading the reviews on here, really excited about it. Looking forward to trying out the other beers in the range too.

Decent real ale here is very expensive and I've never been a fan of lager, so looking forward to hopefully getting some decent ale down my neck once again.

Had a few problems with water, but think I've cracked that now, thankfully.

Looking forward to gaining some 'lost' knowledge on this forum.

C.K

PS - My name of Cornish Knocker is the name of one of my favourite beers

welcome to the forum, bet its warmer there than here

Hi, and welcome. As a westcountryer, I'm partial to the odd Skinners beer. I guess you can't get 'em out there eh?

Thanks.
2 weeks ago at around 25 degs I'm sure it would have been, but now temps are in single figures and half a metre of snow forecast for Tuesday, so I'm not so sure now. :nah:

Thanks for cheering me up. No you can't get it here. If you're lucky maybe Old Speckled Hen, but at £5 a bottle it's impossible to enjoy. I was from Devon so really enjoyed the Cornish, Devon and Somerset brews, but now it's a distant memory.

There is a good brewpub near to me, but draught beer is expensive. There is also a good craft brewery nearby, that do free beer every Saturday from 4pm till 7pm, but you do feel obliged to buy some of their bottled beer every now and again, but at £4 for 375ml it's not cheap. However when I left the UK in 2006, my local was selling a pint of Otter ale for £2.20, so I suspect those days have also long gone?

Crumbs, that's pricey eh? Sorry - I wasn't trying to make you feel bad about Skinners! I guess it's a question of compromise;you live in Italy after all!

Whereabouts in Devon did you live? I'm in Newton Abbot and we've just had Devon's first ever craft beer pub open up in town. It's pretty awesome, too. There are a load more really good breweries in the SW too now. No chance of Otter or anything like that at £2.20 a pint these days. You'll be lucky if it's under £3.50. There's much better stuff out there now though, too. Otter's getting a bit long in the tooth for me.

I grew up in Teignmouth, went to school there and in Torquay (Cuthbert Mayne). Met the wife and moved to Dawlish for a few years then moved again to a village just off junction 27 M5, called Sampford Peverell.

Know Newton Abbot reasonably well. There used to have a good homebrew shop in the market. Also a cracking real ale pub, I think opposite the hospital. Fantastic place.

The beers at the Teignworthy Brewery are always good. I always liked Tawny bitter from the Cotleigh Brewery too. Know what you mean about Otter. I do miss the joy of a good English pub trying out beers not tried before though.

However an excellent bottle of wine here is only around £1.50, so there are some upsides too. ;)

Ah, cool! Wine £1.50 a bottle - now there's an upside right there! :drunk:

HBS is still in the market, but I'm afraid it's not very good these days. Teignworthy are still going strong and I they're probs my favourite local brewery. Can't complain having Tuckers Maltings on the doorstep to get malt from either!

Free beer!!!!

That sounds awesome!

Welcome to the forum! Good to see you've started up the HB habit again, it wont be long before you're back in the swing of things :thumb:

Hi, I live in Italy and started home-brew to have decent beer at decent prices. Home brewing is really taking off here with microbreweries and it appears that there are suppliers but not near me.

There are 3 breweries/brewpubs near me that have great beer, but pricey. The homebrew shops are more expensive that the UK, but the postal charges are crippling.

It's about time the Italian's woke up to decent ale. My neighbour really l likes the beers I've produced so far and says I should sell it here, but you know what the red tape is like here!

Hello. I just bought a lovely stainless FV from these people in Italy (edited)

Have you used them? :thumb:

Oh well, the forum won't let me post their url :( They are Polsinelli Enologia
