off on the holidays next week, driving up to Amsterdam, we use the AA in blighty. we were then looking at doing a two week long european breakdown cover for the other side of the channel, the two main people are green flag or modial,

does anyone have any tips for me on what or how to do this or ideas for when over there

we are driving up from calias to belquie then holland

I don't have much experience of the others but when we used to do Europe by car we took out the extended AA cover which I think was about £100.00 for the 2 weeks.

Glad we did once, the engine blew up on the car half way through the first week. They arranged for our car to be transported home, and lent us a car to complete the rest of our holiday in. It took about 12 hours from when we called them initially to finally having the rental car, with a tow bar, but that was overnight so I was quite impressed with it overall.

I have annual membership of AA European cover now - first year I had it my car destroyed it's engine on the first day we arrived at the camp site in France. The tow truck came same evening and towed the car away. First thing next morning a taxi came and took us to the car hire place where we were given a car to continue our holiday with. Eventually my car was brought back to England and we were given another car at Calais to swap with the rental to drive ourselves back home.

2 years later all 5 injectors in my volvo failed - car got repaired while in France by Volvo under warranty but AA provided a hire car for the 10 days the car was being fixed.

Absolutely amazing service and I wouldn't take a car across the channel without it now. Only caveat I think is that the car has to be under 9 years old. If you go across a lot (which I do) the annual cover is any car and is about £150 a year I think.

I never bought another Volvo again - both of them major failures when under a year old...but ever so thankful I had European cover!
