Anyone know of a fairly reliable way of estimating the SG of a priming solution of water and corn sugar (dextrose)?

I’ve tried measuring the SG with a hydrometer but it’s too high (off the scale)

Sugar has a ppg of 48 which converts to about 38 gravity points per 100g per litre.

Not sure if I’m working his out right, but I found an online calculator....

It reckons that 228g of sugar in .5L water would give a SG of 1.173

Is this about right?

That would be spot-on based on what Strange-steve is saying.

Sugar adds 38 points per 100g per litre.

You're using 228g of sugar, so 38 points x 228/100 = 86.64 points per litre.

You're then using 0.5l of water, so 86.64 x 1/0.5 = 173.28.
