I'm looking for some Eroica hops for a Czech pils recipe I found, can anyone recommend a UK supplier?

(blowing own horn) I tried the custom search engine for all the brewing links posted on the site, viewtopic.php?f=17&t=10#p37048 (stop blowing) but it really seems that nobody has them - if all else fails, what'd be a suitable replacement?

Saaz . . . only suitable hop for a Czech Pilsner

Hi,

That might work then, though there's already a bit of saaz in the recipe for aroma, and eroica for sharp bittering. Here's the recipe, in fact:

Malt/Specialty Grains
3kg Extra light malt extract
500g Belgian Pils grain
250g CaraPils grain

45g eroica (60 mins - whole boil)
30g EKG (30 mins)
60g saaz (10 mins) - might add these for a 10 min steep instead

also, yeast nutrient and irish moss; recipe says wyeast 2278 czech pils but I think I might just pick the nearest pils yeast I can get

Just seen how high eroica's AA are (11-14%!), I'm not convinced that saaz would work the same as a replacement, but I've never done a pils before.

I actually think its the other way round . . . I don't think Eroica would work as a suitable replacement for Saaz.

Traditionally (Before Inbev and SAB got involved) Bohemian Pilsners were Bittered with Saaz . . . . . . . and Only Saaz . . . 100% Saaz. Bitter, flavour and aroma. . . . My 70L of 'A Iron Thirst, Defended' Pilsner used 400g of Saaz (Plus 90g of Pacific Hallertau . . . I had to cheat forgot to order enough Saaz) to get the required (Mandatory) 40IBU

Hah! Well a Bohemian noble hop in a traditional Bohemian beer makes perfect sense to me. That's a lot of hops though... best don my balaclava and wait for the hop shop to close

Discovering that your sight glass leaks in the FV, and you have a really good mouldy slime colony on the inside of the insulation . . . . which has transferred itself to your beer . . . 68L of beer Destined for the Drain  13 quids worth of hops

Argh! Sorry for your loss :( That's pretty much worst-case scenario. Maybe I'll call this brew Aleman's Lament in memoriam? :D
