I bought a hobgoglin keg recently and the bung had a vent although I didn't realise it was not one that you push in. I Pushed the party tap in and it snapped the flange off the tube at the connection to the tap assembly. Once opened the bung could not be reused although I have other reusable bungs to replace it with.
I managed to glue the tube back together ( it is an old style tap with no parts available) I drank the beer in three days from the bottom tap as the bung would not form an air tight seal as its is simply a vent and not a dispensing bung.

You dont have to drink the keg all in one go. I drink my MK over 4 days usually, just using the integral gravity tap

Sorry what I meant is I don't like drinking the same thing day in day out. I only tend to drink on a Friday and one or two on a Saturday

Finished my Ghost Ship minikeg last night, lovely stuff but looking forward to filling it with my Mosaic hopped Coopers Heritage Lager even more.
Just need to convince swmbo that we need to leave our caravan a day early 😉

Managed to fill my first two kegs today. Was pretty straightforward. Primed each with 12g sugar.replaced bung quick swish to mix and now under the bar could terms to condition. Also did 24 bottles (8lts ish). Pretty good stock now once those and the stouts I bottle yesterday are conditioned.

What to brew next... may go for a Rye.

I am a complete beginner, not made my first brew yet and have yet to buy equipment but I do like Hobgoblin Gold so should I start buying it and saving the Kegs? Are these one reusable and how do you reuse them, would I need anything else?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Yes you can re-use them, you will need to replace the bung.

All you need to do is after drinking the Hob Gold, remove the old bung, give it a good wash and make sure its dry and then re-fill.

With a bit of elbow grease.

Brew_novice, this is why this forum is the best. Leon is, in my eyes, one of the top ranking members. He, maybe she, can answer most if not all of your questions about getting and mastering this hobby!? Field!?
You stated you've yet brewed... Leon is right. Collect and drink them. But not in my eyes to gain items. Gain a Brewers desires. The good homebrewers one this form push to replicate the recipes. Take this moment to find you taste. There is no wrong answer. Once you know what you want to brew, then form your technique to get there.
Leon, you the man!

Re read. I done graduate from some institution.... grammar.... can I blame this on spell korrect!?

Why thank you young man.

With a bit of elbow grease.

I should have elaborated a bit here but trying to work from home, look after a toddler and nurse my ill wife.

To be honest I find the bungs a pain in the rear to remove and you have to be careful not to scratch the keg because it rusts easily. I think in the future I will only use empty kegs, unless I get some really good offers/beer in a keg.

I buy kegs and bungs from leyland brewing.

Have you tried the string tip MyQul posted?

Hi MyQul noticed from your beers that you have Orkney Dark Island, Love this brew from my time working up in Scotland. Would you happen to have the recipe. Sorry for being off thread.

Even though this thread is 100 pages long,i still dont have a party star tap!
Im not sure how much it will improve the beer as it doesn't force carb it (i think) will it still taste smooth (a little flat at times tbh but i dont mind) but have a head on it ot does it make it a different pint altogether?
Either way easy kegs save me from so,so much bottling

I'm sure this information may be in here somewhere but I've got about 20 pages in from the start and 20 pages from the end and not spotted it.

I want to start using easy kegs to reduce the amount of bottling that i need to do. At the moment I don't think I'm going to get a party star tap although I'm quite interested in the bike valve adaptation mentioned here. Has anyone got this to work properly?

I've got the bung out of a Hobgoblin keg (destroying it in the process). I purchased some of these grey two piece bungs from HBC. Can I use them if I just want to dispense under gravity? Would I just break the seal around the bung to let in some air?

If I got some of the red and black ones from BrewUK or Leyland they are definitely reusable aren't they?

If I did end up getting a tap at some point, are the Easy Kegs with the bottom taps usable, or do you need the Mini Kegs which don't have a bottom tap?

Thanks!
