Hi folks.
I've brewed a festival Old Suffolk Strong Ale. It said to add the 50g hops after 5 days. Now I did this, but instead of adding them loose as instructed, I filled the strainer bag that came with the kit, as I didn't want particles floating about.
Five days later and it's floating on top like a sausage. I did give it a squeeze at FG testing time, but I don't really get much hoppiness from the trial jar tasting.
The FG has settled at 1.012 over the last couple of days now, but I'm nervous it won't be hoppy enough should I bottle now.
Any ideas what to do? Should I make a hop tea and strain the solution in then leave for another couple of days?

Normally when using a bag for dry hops you would add weights to the bag to ensure it's below the surface, I use a couple of large stainless steel serving spoons, because as you've just found out hops are quite buoyant.

It's possible there was some hops not in contact with the beer, but 50g isn't a huge dry hop so wouldn't really add a ton of hoppiness anyway.

If I were you I'd probably just bottle it as is, but making a hop tea might not be a bad idea. If you do there's probably no need to leave it in the FV any longer, just get it bottled.

I ended up going with a hop tea, which was the right move judging by a taste from the trial jar. It has made it taste like beer rather than malt only 🍻
