Settled down last night to enjoy my first bottle of Nelsons revenge after six weeks conditioning, poured a glass, nice clear beer with good carbonation, nice head, thought im going to enjoy this only to find that its got a horrible TCP aftertaste, couldnt drink the glass so tried another bottle which tasted the same.

So disapointed!!

This is my fifth brew and the first time i have had this problem. Was careful to sterilise everything and used bottled spring water, though thinking about it, i didnt quite have enough and if i remember rightly topped up the fermenter with some tap water, maybe this caused the problem.

Anyway, looks like this lot is going down the sink

did you add a campden to your water. Also you might want to try fitting non return valves to your appliances as we had same trouble. Apparently according to our water company you get water sitting in your rubber hoses for washer dishwasher etc and when you turn on the cold tap a vacuum is created sucking the water from the rubber pipes in to the piping to your cold tap. This can cause the tcp taste. If the taste is present in your hot drinks etc its definately a non return valve job. Its cured our problem straight away. Also i dont think bottled water is good for a bitter as it has a soft profile usually better for lagers kolsch etc. Your better off using treated tap water :thumb:
