Dog fouling

I and my neighbours have a real issue with a dog fouling, every day for the last 2 weeks right in the entrances to our gate ways. I want to catch the person in 'action' so I can report it to the dog warden. Has anyone got any experience of using external battery operated hard drive/memory card camera's or wifi battery powered cameras?
I want to put a camera in my car, the area of pavement is only 15m long. I know the rough times within a 2 hour window when it's happening so could do with being able to record for this period.

I'm about as interested in the legalities of filming there as the person who's allowing their dog to foul so no point mentioning it to me :lol:

you just gave me an idea vossey i also have the phantom dog walkers who also let there dog ++++ outside my gate on a regular basis if i find the culprit i will put the dogs unpleasant parcel through there letterbox see how they like it
it realy is anoying theres no need for dogs fouling

My mate used to do just that with a photo of the "event", it solved his problem quite quickly.

I know you said not to mention it, but legally you're fine, you are filming in a public place. :thumb:

I have an android phone and an android tablet, I downloaded Web Of Cam on both devices and can watch the camera of the phone through the tablet. There is an option to allow you to take photos, it would be good if you wanted to catch them and confront them about cleaning up after their dog.

Yep, submit the evidence. They won't change their ways unless they get pulled up by the authorities (and sometimes it'll have to be many times).

It's just another example of the lack of responsibility shown by so many nowadays.

I hate it too.

I have a network camera as part of our security, which I can check in on from anywhere in the world via the web, and receive email alerts and photos if it detects movement. I think it cost around £60-70. Works wirelessly over wifi, though needs mains power. Not sure about battery devices. :hmm:

It may not stop the Oceans 11 team, but it would more than do for 'jobs' (sorry) like yours if you could put it somewhere you had power.

I thought if you were using cctv on your property you have to put some forms of sign up otherwise you might get accused of invading civil right when we put cctv up on.mums house as she was having issues with the neighbours we had stickers in the box to stick on the windows nothing said how big the stickers have tto be mind you

There are a few options, blue tooth and wifi, depending on range from the receiver to the camera.

Do check for power supplies, and consider how you're going to get power to the camera, the only battery operated ones I've come across were quite poor

I know you said you didn't want the legal bit, but....

You should put up signs if CCTV is in use, especially if you want to submit the images to John Law as evidence for a prosecution, illegally acquire evidence isn't submissable.

As to filming the person allowing their dog to foul in a public place, it's their actions you're filming, not specific to the individual so it's legal :)

A pet hate of mine (excuse the pun), you have to stake out and catch them and when confronted invariably they will say that it could not have been them as they weren't anywhere near your property and when they accuse me of the subsequent verbal/physical assault I give the same answer.

I would put poison down, but I keep in mind that it is the owner, not the dog who is responsible.

Picking up crap in a bag is not top of my list but as a dog owner it comes with the territory.

You may be able to find something cheaper for the reason you want it, but this might come in handy for the car. Or wrap it up after you have used it for a gift.

This is something that really pisses me off. It's simple really, if you have a dog clear up after them!!

And yes I do have a dog. 3 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. We're also currently dog sitting a Welsh Springer Spaniel and a Munsterlander.

I share your anger. I HATE dog fouling on my walk to work, particularly in winter when its dark, and wet, and there are leaves so you can't see what's what.
But doing it in front of someone's house everyday - that's getting personal.

IMHO if you're in a public place, you can expect to be recorded - the privacy laws don't come in to it. What's not allowed is being intrusive - you can't stand on a public highway with a high powered zoom lens and record what's going on in someone's bedroom, even if they haven't drawn the curtains. You'll be OK. If it's positioned so you might catch your neighbours, it might be worth letting them know you're doing it, so they can draw their curtains if they want.

Thanks so far chaps :thumb: Re those car cameras, they're £25 on ebay, problem is they record on a loop, 5, 10, 15 mins before wiping and re recording so that would limit the 'window' too much. They would also require a permanent supply to work and I don't have a leisure battery any more, car auto eco mode after 20 mins so no good.
It looks like I'm going to be forced to go with a wired supply, not a problem but that means putting the camera in my garden pointing along the pavement and I have a fence so almost impossible to hide.
I'm thinking I may well be forced to sit in the car for 2 hours one morning...not my idea of fun, and I'm pretty sure I know who it is as well. I'd still prefer to be able to video them in action for 'proof' problem is most phones and cameras are too bright on start up and I'll be spotted in a dark car...fact they're touch screen too means I can't cover the screen to darken it :x

I used a webcam to put a stop to some overnight thieving in our office, it is movement activated so only records when something is going on. It would look like a satnav on your dashboard and could be powered and run from an old laptop hidden on the seat.

your best bet (if your home wifi reaches your car) is to use a mobile. there are various apps on android and appstore that will let you watch the footage from your home pc and take pictures remotely for free.

if that is not an option, something like this will work.
