DiY wort chiller

this is my homemade effort which i've been using happily for years, bent freehand with a spring. barb end goes to a hosepipe coming in from the garden tap under the window.

it'd be nice to connect to my kitchen tap so i don't have to head outside. no option to use one of those hozelock type fittings on my tap though.

any ideas what kind of screw fitting we have here? ideally i'd like to be able to attach a camlock to make filling my hlt easier.

Sure I've seen a rubber sleeve type attachment you tighten with a jubilee clip that would fit.

I made my own once using the techniques described above but it become a bit of a mare to keep clean/sanitized and it was using a huge amount of water to get down to pitching temp. Recently I've been transferring to a jerry can and doing the no chill thing. However, last week I discovered a hole in my siphon tube and so could not transfer form my SS pot to the cube, so I simply put some saitized tin foil over the pot, covered with the lid, more tin foil over the top of that to make air tight and just left the wort in the pot overnight to cool. Haven't noticed any adverse effects yet (it's been in the FV for a week, so far all good). It's a re-run of an old recipe so if it's resulted in adverse flavours I should be able to tell in a couple of weeks or so, will let you know

I have a similar looking tap that I use to connect a grainfather cf chiller to. I believe it's a 5/8" BSP thread, which sadly is not a very common size. You can find some adapters out there, depending on what you want to connect to. I managed to find a Reducing bush that would allow you to connect a standard 3/4" screw on hose connector.

that reducing bush looks like the kind of thing i'm after.
i shall fetch the callipers out to measure the diameter of the tap and get googling.
sometimes you just need the right plumbing terms to find what you're after - i'd never seen the words 'reducing' and 'bush' put together.

I bought some of these last year that then allows me to screw a standard 1/2" hoselock fitting into it

@KGB for reference this is my tap that the above adapters for on to, thread looks the same as yours

I have left my brews cooling for as long as it takes, does not seem to cause and problems.

As much as it takes....just keep running it through until the water coming out is a similar temp to the wort

One end attached to water supply, coil in the the hot wort and the other end to a drain. Heat transfers from wort through copper to the water so cd water in hot water out

That chiller looks great small coils inside then larger ones around them

Save the hot water for cleaning and stick a water meter on the output and you'll be amazed how much you go through.

That's what I was getting at as all water is metered, I am trying to 'design' a glycol chiller with my future son in law who is a clever lad. I will share this once tested.
