Right, i need your tips,
I have got two old and really filthy DJ'a that need cleaning, and when I say filthy I mean disgraceful, (found at the bottom of the garden behind the shed)

What the best way to restore them to their former glory so I can start some TC

if glass DJ's....bleach will certainly clean them up. Main problem is how they have survived outside over the winters and summers. Has frost weakened them at all ? have they any minute cracks in them ? Unfortunately you only find out when its too late.
I honestly wouldn't bother with them.

Amazing coincidence

I spent half an hour or so earlier this evening cleaning 2 very dirty DJs that my dad brought at the weekend! They're nearly done...

In no particular order:

Put some sand in them with a small amount of water and shake violently.
Get a bottle brush or DJ brush down to all areas.
Pour a little water from the kettle and swirl, emptying fairly promptly - at your own risk.
Soak for ages in thin bleach solution.
(Repeat from the start if needed at this point)
Rinse and soak in campden solution to get rid of the bleachiness.
Sanitise

That's what I'm working through...

Gate crasher here :!:

When you say oxi clean do you mean the laundry type stuff like this

I have a number of them with stubborn stains around the bottom edge and the neck, hard to access with a bottle brush and resistant to cleaning agents. However, so long as they are sterile, they present no problem. I once worked in a hospital. Surgical instruments went through an autoclave and returned in a sterile package. There would often be bits of dried flesh on them. Sterile but not clean!

Well I tried my best and they seem to be clean, so I've sterilised and started a TC last night, so far no sign of any cracks (these are big heavy old fashioned fellows) who knows if I have got them properly clean it not, I'll find out when I drink the cider I suppose
