I'm used to boiling up approx 6l of wort. I could buy a bigger pot but what's the thought about adding water to the f.v. at the end. Should it be fully boiled water, should it be done at all?

I believe it's called `maxi-BIAB' where you BIAB a concentrated wort then dilute to the right OG for the recipe. I think it's MyQul who does this a lot. I do it a bit because my 30L boiler just isn't big enough for a full length boil ending at 23L. It might reduce your efficiency when mashing a bit.
If your water is pure enough to use unheated when making a kit I can't see a problem with using it straight from the tap. If not (mine isn't) you'll have to boil it, but only to kill the bugs.
 
Cwrw666 is right, this is how I roll (....erm brew ). I take a recipe for 23L and cram the grain and as much water as I can fit, into a 20L pot. I then sparge and boil, and usually end up with 17L of concentrated wort which I then put into my FV and then dilute this concentrated wort down to 23L. I just use my water from my tap to dilute it. I don't do anything to it to prevent bugs or anything but I do treat it to adjust the water chemistry for beer style
 
I have done this in the past too on brews where the water levels were off or my boiler failed.. You're not mashing with the water so it needs no treatment that way .. As long as your water is drinkable it will be fine!! Also helps cool your brew down a little too.

If you're going to do that though for a bigger batch size you need to as MyQul says make the wort concentrated so you will need to include grain and hops to suit your final wort length (including top up) not your boil length
 
Thank you - i'll give it a go. Most of my partial mashes have been at 6l with 1kg of dem and approx 600g grain, so it could be toned down a bit with water. I'll try straight from tap first. Not the best qual water in north hampshire but it'll help with the cold break.
