Deep Clean after Year off

Hi all,

As the title suggests I finally have my space up and running so will be putting a few brews on ASAP. However some of the kit has been in storage for a while and doesn’t look in the best of condition. What is the best way to return it back to “like new”? Links to products to use would be amazing. Thanks in advance.

Is it metal? Acid, unless otherwise specified (aluminium is different afaicr). Is it plastic? Soaking overnight, and non-scratch elbow grease. But check your budget: maybe it's time for new and shiny

Personally, I would:

• Nip along to Tesco and buy a bottle of their Thin Bleach.
• Stick half the bottle in the bath and put enough warm water in there to cover everything that needs to be sanitised.
• Scrub off anything that I could see (dust, dried on yeast etc), rinse it in cold water and then submerge it in the diluted water/bleach mixture.
• Leave everything overnight to soak.
• Drain off the water/bleach mixture and empty everything out the next morning.
• Rinse everything with cold water, refill the bath with warm water and submerge everything until the afternoon.
• Drain off the water and rinse everything off again with cold water; taking care to ensure that anything that will come into contact with the brew (i.e. bottles, FV's etc) has no noticeable "bleach" smell to it.

After that, everything should be clean, smell free and ready to be sanitised with Starsan/Oxyclean or other "no rinse" sanitising agent prior to brewing, bottling etc.

Sounds like not a bad routine there, the boss won’t let me use the bath but I’ve got a giant water butt (clean, kept inside garage) that will do the same job. Thanks

Dissolve a couple of camden tablets in that rinse bath and they will work to destroy any residual chlorine from the bleach.
