I am so bad at DIY SWMBO wont let me do much work in the house, i am sure i am not the only one who has done this and i will use the nail head trick in future.

If you have any similar tips feel free to post them i for one will appreciate them.

Rather than cut the point off ,just give it a couple of hardish taps to blunt it ,works great ,using the hammer of course with the nail on its head .

To make a pilot hole ,and then used a new nail to hammer in .

Golden rule of DIY, never, ever say "that won't take long" before starting to do a job because if you do every conceivable thing will go wrong while you are doing it and it will end up taking hours
