Am I right in thinking that it is only high temperatures that produce off tastes?
I am managing to keep between 18-22 in the daytime but sometimes dropping to 15-16 overnight, will that just slow it down?

You should be fine there - I am about to chuck a KingKeg barrel full of Coopers European Lager which I brewed too hot in our living room - between 22-26 I reckon it was, and only needed around 18'c - expensive lesson learned, it smells weird and tastes rank

I have to thank partly SWMBO who is a cold ar*e and likes to be warm in winter

Hi

Depends on what you are brewing, lager is generally brewed better at around 16-18 degrees (unless you can lager it) despite what it says on the tin.

Bitter/ale etc 20-22degrees but be aware that when any beer is fermenting it can produce a temp 2degrees higher than the room temp so use a thermometer to check the actual wort temp and not go by the room temp.

Lager is usually crisper in taste at lower temps but it does take longer to ferment

Thanks for the advice...I'll take on board the tips and keep a close eye on the temps.
