Anybody got any idea how much it costs in electricity to run a boiler(made with kettle element) for an hour and a half +?

I have always gone on kW rating of element x no of hours x price per unit (ie the price per kW hour charged by the electricity company)...and then I add a little bit.

So, 2.4kW element for 1.5 hours x whatever your pence per unit cost turns out to be plus 50p would do it for me.

I use two separate 10gal HLT and Copper at home each having two x 2.4kW elements and a full start to finish brewing session usually costs me around £4.

Six sleeps (for me) until Spring Thing.

I calculated a 2.4kw boiler costs me about 30p per hour. I then calculate the hours I have it switched on. You'll always come in under the end value because the thermostat will not keep the element on all the time if you are using it to heat the liquor for the mash/sparge.

I prefer not to draw any attention to this, just to keep the price per pint figure nice and low when SWMBO asks about it
