good afternoon
I want to first say hello to everyone from Spain as it is my first post.
I've been reading your forum long time and today I finally decided to register.
I hope to help as much as possible and not be too heavy.
Excuse my English is not good.

This is the question: I have a new corny (was a gift).

Inside the corny (picture below) can see the rough weldings (a few lumps) where corny horizontal welding is (there is also in the lower weld)
I've never had a corny, so do not know if it is normal.
Should I be concerned about possible contamination?
I can fix it? For example with a dremel?

I hope your help, I had already made illusions

cheers!

Hi Vigmaq

This isn't normal in a good quality corny, and could, as you suggest, make the cleaning and sterilising of your corny much more difficult to do properly.

I would strongly recommend that you do not try to correct this with a Dremel, in case you create a weak spot that would leak under pressure.

As it is a gift, I assume you don't want to point out the poor quality to the person that gave you the gift, so it could be returned.

If so, I'd say sanitise/sterilise it as you normally would for your brewing equipment, use it once, as it'll probably be ok until it's had beer in it, then either sterilise it more thoroughly than normal - boiling water followed by chemicals you normally use, or don't use it again.

Cheers

Derek

derek thanks for your answer.
the person who gave it to me is not a home brewer, do not understand about the quality of these products, and I do not dare say anything.
Apart from possible contamination, I guess they are not sanitary welds, will that be a problem considering that the beer will always be cold and corny will not withstand very high temperatures?

is this one of these horrible chinese ones ? i have heard some horror stories about these with tales of dodgy welds, dodgy seals etc, could you return it and pay the little bit extra for an italian aeb one ?

Sure is Chinese :-( because my friend is a direct import (no beer products) and also has the same design, but I can not return it because it is a gift.

What I´d like to know is if the corny can be fixed or can be used as well, because I have read in some forums that there are Chinese cornys with poor quality but can be used without problems

Yes the cornie can be used I have 4 of those and had lots of brews in them
just be extra anal about sanitising it possibly by steaming it using a wallpaper steam stripper then a good sanitiser
