Are they good?
What exactly do I need to use one please I assume not just the keg.

Unlikely that anyone has a corny keg. Most people buy a few and find that they breed rapidly. I have 8.

How much am I looking at for a keg and everything I need?

For 3 kegs, I'd say budget £250. That's to cover:

• 3 kegs
• CO2 regulator
• Gas line
• Beer line
• John Guest connectors
• A reasonable quality tap (stainless steel, adjustable flow rate)
• Bottle of CO2

That would give you the ability to have three beers conditioning or ready to drink, can force carb, and just draw off what you want from each keg by swapping the tap around. The setup is simple and I'm happy to provide a more detailed list or links if needed. Sourcing the CO2 is probably the harder part of this.

If you only wanted 1 keg, knock £110 off the above price. Nothing to stop you buying more kegs later

If you're wanting to go down the keezer/kegerator route, you'd also need:

• Chest freezer, larger under-counter fridge or tall larder fridge (Facebook best place to start)
• 3-way gas manifold
• More line and connectors
• More taps

You're probably looking about £30 for the manifold and perhaps £40 per tap setup.

I would go with this, give them a call to see when the party taps are back in stock. Or get one with a proper tap and stick the keg in an old fridge and mount the tap through the door.
Other than this you need to hire a CO2 bottle, so maybe £50 hire that includes a £25 deposited on the bottle. This varies quite a bit with where you get it.

Kit linked above makes sense, but if you want to get your own bundle together rather than wait for that to come back in stock...

I got all my kegs from www.thehomebrewcompany.co.uk but not sure if there are Brexit-related shipping issues going on. £60 for a reconditioned keg, which is what you want (no point getting a new one).

I got my regulator from Malt Miller: Beer Storage and Dispense - New and Used KEGS and Fittings - Premium CO2 Regulator - The Malt Miller | The Malt Miller That's all you'll ever need, regardless of how many kegs you eventually run.

And then the little bits:

I have a tap like this which I can connect directly to the beer out connector on the keg, which I ordered from AliExpress. Much better than the picnic taps which are tricky as they can foam a lot. Something along the lines of the "adjust tap kit" linked below. It should be below the VAT and duty threshold provided you choose free shipping (I believe shipping gets included in the value otherwise):

8gm is a tiny amount of CO2 so you'd need a lot of those for it to be of any use, which would be very expensive and time-consuming. To put that into perspective, my CO2 bottle is around 16kg (which admittedly lasts me all year).

I use a mixture of 16g CO2 bulbs for mini kegs and a soda stream cylinder for my corny kegs, but this is an expensive way of buying CO2 if I choose to force carb my 9.5L keg I need about 2 16g cartridges or 1/10 of a soda stream cylinder so you are looking at £1.30-£1.60 a keg plus CO2 to dispense. Double that for a 19L keg throw in the fact that my beers are mostly low carbed English ales you will likely need even more for a lot of styles. I use these because for me personally they are convenient but pay a big premium for this so would not recommend it if a 6.5KG cylinder is an option for you.
