I want to buy a spanner to help get my corny keg posts off and have been looking around on Google for what size to get. There seems to be 2 thoughts, 22mm and 7/8 which are pretty similar anyway. 22mm are far easier to get hold of, does it make much difference which size you get?

Hey there - I got myself a set of cheap box spanners from Toolstation the other day for my keg posts - they were £8 and I found that on my kegs, the 19mm one did the trick. Most people report 22mm as the posts are usually 7/8 in old money.

For £8 though, I reckon they're worth the money as they are much easier to use with the restricted space at the top of a keg so will save you scraping your knuckles. They'll also come in handy for other stuff no doubt!

After many years in engineering i can tell you that 22mm-7/8 and 19mm-3/4 are the same size respectively. If possible use a ring type as will save grazed knuckles if spanner slips

My cornies have two different size posts, large ones are 32mm and smaller are 19mm.

As an aside, the post diameters are different and if you get the in and out connects mixed up they can stick and be very difficult to separate. The gas (in) have a little notch on the nut hexagon.
