Corny Keg leaking - vasaline?

"Brewers lube" is what I use. Available in small tins on Amazon. There's enough in a tin to last a lifetime.

Good news, it appears to be holding pressure and not draining the CO2 cylinder. So far so good!

Does it not matter what sort of rubber the O ring is made from though?

It is food grade silicone. I have never thought about what could be a replacement, has to be food grade and be able to hold up to the acidity of the content.

Trouble is I am moving home soon so have to pack all those blasted bottles.!!

I bought a corny keg from the same company and couldn’t get it to seal below 15psi. They weren’t interested in helping me but I bought some extra thick seals and some keg lube on eBay which sorted it.

One of the best bit of advice I was given was to crank pressure up to 30psi to seat the o-ring and seal. Having said that had a case where the cap was misalighned and slowly leaked- Fixed by loosening and re-jiggled before pressurising again.

It's true that they can be a bit fiddly and when something goes wrong it can be a bit of a head scratcher but I'd never go back to bottling unless I had to. I tailor my recipes so that I don't even have any leftover beer for the odd bottle. And I recently off-loaded about 70 grolsch bottles as they were just gathering dust.
