So just received two corny kegs care of norm. I am waiting on the reg to arrive and a couple of lines , thanks mark1964 for the steer, but I am struggling to source the co2. I appreciate that it's a challenge and someone suggested opening an account with BOC !

So you have all been very helpful but can anyone provide info on a reliable way of obtaining co2 , I dont have a friendly pub.

:?:

Norman used to sell the smaller Co2 cylinders (fire extinguisher size). Opening an account with BOC is a reliable way to get gas but expensive. Try phoning local hydroponics shops or specialised aquarium places. They can often get hold of them for more up front but with out the monthly charge.

Have a look in the yellow pages for beer gas suppliers. Smaller friendly ones are the best bet but dont be suprised if you get afew straight no's :(

Also when picking up your cylinder check the safety tag on the top make sure your buying one that has recently been tested otherwise if its run out when you take it back the wont refill with out a further charge for servicing /testing. No reputable supplier will fill a cylinder that has an out of date safety tag!

Also be aware that it may effect your insurance and be a no-no in a rental contract to keep pressurised gas in your home. Treated with respect and care they are not dangerous them selves, but Co2 can kill.......

but its worth it! :thumb:

I have had afew problems in pubs before so I am aware of the dangers!

A leaking cylinder iced up and froze solid... the hose snapped/cracked... what a mess! Also had a BOC driver throw one down a cellar drop... hit the concrete on the valve.. that was dangerous.

Google is your friend!

I just googled 'CO2 supplier leicester' ended up getting it from an aquarium shop at £60 for 5kg and then £25 refills, not all that cheap, but the best I could find without a long drive.

If you draw a complete blank these guys do a delivery service but with the delivery cost and the return delivery cost it works out expensive (even though the gas itself is cheap)

Where did you get the regs from Rwilts?

Mark,

i had a look at their web site and they didnt appear to deal with individuals, they do then?
yes they will deliver a single bottle. Drop your local depot an e mail im sure they will be able to sort you out if you want to go ahead and rent one :thumb:

Hi there

Try asking in the Cardiff Homebrew store - they may have ideas on gas supplies in Cardiff. Down here in Swansea the local diving supplies does CO2 for a few quid - can supply tanks too, typically £30 and yours to keep

Yea, i have spoken to the shop. they supply small s30? co2 and dont know of a co2 supplier. i have emailed boc but not had reply yet. will try dive shop as well.

My advice would be to phone them. Emails to BOC tend to get lost or ignored or forwarded on to someone and forgotten about. This is the case with my depot in the North West. D

I didn't manage to get a full cylinder but two empty ones. Bummer. Oh well.

I did get this beauty for £20 though :-)
