I have found a corney keg thst has been pressure tested and has had new seals fitted for about £35, what other bits would i need if i bought it because all i would be getting is the keg

Thanks

You'd need:

1) some disconnects (connectors to attach to the cornie - one for the gas in and one for the beer out).
2) a beer tap of some sort
3) a canister of CO2
4) a pressure regulator to drop the canister pressure to a few 10s of PSI
5) some beer line and gas line

If you intend dispensing via a beer engine then you might like to get a cask breather too.

Although the price you have quoted is not bad - you might want to ask NormanNumpa (see the links button at the top of the page) what deal he can do you because he has cornies at great prices and often includes the disconnects free of charge (normally 7.50 each). If you ask nicely he will probably include some beer line too.

If you want to go the whole hog, he can supply the CO2 canister, regulator and a variety of taps.

Hi guys,

I'm contemplating going down the Corney route myself and am thinking or giving Norm a shout. Just wondering if anybody knows his general whereabouts in the country at all? I'm wondering if he's within easy reach of the Midlands to save having to factor in shipping!

Thanks,
Tim.

Norms a great guy - i've made many a trip to his place - very friendly & helpful :thumb:

15 mins from SC TT - where abouts do you work? I work just outside of Tamworth..

Excellent. I've dropped him an email to register my interest :)

I work just outside Coleshill. Although, bizarrely enough, I used to work (and practically live) in Sutton Coldfield about 4 years ago!

Well, I'm now the proud owner of two cornies with disconnects, a party tap, assorted JG fittings and beer line, and a 2Kg CO2 cylinder and regulator. Another massive wave of appreciation to Norm, he's an absolute pleasure to deal with.

He didn't have the CO2 cylinder at the weekend, so he just drove to my place of work and dropped it off!!! Absolutely stunning service!

My foray into homebrewing and the people I've met along the way have definitely restored my faith in humankind :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Why did you have to buy him off :wha:[/quote:1kfgui4t]
Because he didn't know the secret password ;)

In reality Norm is a TOP bloke and very friendly. Also unlike a number of people selling kegs on ebay Norms kegs are usually pressure tested come with new seals and disconects, If you want a full setup consisting of a 2Kg bottle ( refilable if you find the right place ) gas regulator some tubing 2 cornies and a tap its about £140 may be less may be a little more depending on his stocks I think.

All but one of my kegs have come from Norm and I've been delighted with almost all of them but I question whether he does actually replace all seals. I think it's more a case of he checks whether they hold pressure and replaces maybe the big lid 'o' ring but doesn't necessarily replace stuff like the diptube 'o' ring. I speak from experience of having one keg lose pressure on its first use from a very dog-earred 'o' ring on the long diptube and another that had a knackered poppet on the gas-in post on first use.

Both were easily fixed and out of all of the kegs I've had these are minor faults and it's not a complaint but something that people should be aware of and have replacement seals available should they be needed. In contrast, I bought one keg from 'Green' who advertises a lot on Ebay and the picture clearly showed a Cornelius keg. What I received was an NC Jolly keg with a lid that is incredibly hard to close, it was delivered shrink-wrapped via the Royal Mail rather than boxed and protected with polystyrene / newspapers via UPS from Norm. Furthermore, no matter how much I clean it I'm getting a black residue off the rubber top and bottom, something I've never had off any keg supplied by Norm.

I was probably unlucky but I still haven't used that particular keg yet preferring to stick to my tried and trusted Norm kegs. Just pointing out that neither are perfect but in the grand scheme of things I know where any future purchases I make will be made.
