Hi fellow brewers.

my son bought me the above lager kit to brew for my birthday. It went into the FV on the 28th March and is still bubbling away (about every 80 Seconds through the airlock).

I am going away for work for the week tomorrow and am in a quandary as to whether to leave it to carry on or move it rack it into another FV.

Any help would be great

Cheers

it's probably ready. it'll carry on creating co2 for a long time after fermenting - beer usually ferments out in about 4 days.

if there's no big foamy head on it and it smells like beer, you can probably bottle or keg it. if you want a quick bottling solution put it in 2L bottles, you just have to pour the whole bottle at once into jugs, they're about 3.5 pints each. transferring to another FV to sit it there isnt entirely neccessary. :thumb:

Leave it (IMHO) - that's only 10 days and it's probably still fermenting: I normally leave mine for a minimum of 14 days.

It won't hurt leaving it longer because it'll have a blanket of CO2 above it protecting the beer, in fact it'll probably help it clear - I've left several of mine for 20 days or more and it's resulted in less sediment in the bottles.

Leave it, another week will be fine.
I leave most of my kits three weeks now, although having a shed full of stash certainly helps.

Thanks for the help I think as the general feeling is that it wont hurt to leave it I will err on the side of caution and leave it till I get back on Friday.

Cheers

I agree you should leave it. The only way to know it has finished fermenting is to use a hydrometer - if the gravity stays the same for three days it has finished.
