Over the past few months I've been inspired by TheElectricBrewery.com to build my own kettle and control panel.
One part of their setup is to use an Omega / Eagle countdown timer.

Looking around they seem pretty expensive or hard to find so I left it out, but after the first brew I realised it would be pretty handy so... I built my own!
I've used the same setup for the buttons as the PID; far left button for mode/set, then a shift left / start stop button, then down, and up.
You can also set 5 different alarms for things like hops additions:
The whole control panel is pretty Soviet looking as my girlfriend likes to point out, but I'm pretty pleased, and it works!
