I have a batch of Smugglers that just keeps bubbling. It started off 3 weeks ago with a good steady bubble, slowed down after 4-5 days and has just kept bubbling through the air lock steadily ever since (a glurp every 5-10 mins I reckon). Ambient temp is between 18-20C and is fairly steady at that temp (the fv is stuck in an out of the way corner in the kitchen). I know I should start taking hydrometer readings but don't want to mess with it if I don't have to. I didn't add any extra fermentables so guess that the yeast is just a bit slower than I'm used to? I've only brewed Admiral's (bottled a few weeks ago and as yet unsampled) and framboos (which was bloody brilliant!) before.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi KP

Are you asking if the fermentation is complete yet?

My gut feel is that it is probably complete - a bubble every few minutes is very slow so I think it is all but dormant at this stage. A taste test will give you a idea of how it is going but you really want to take a gravity reading to be sure.

Greetings and thanks for the reply. Yes, that was what I meant to ask! Sorry, I got interrupted and either had to post what I had or leave it completely. Good to hear that it's probably done it's thing. Hopefully will have time to bottle this Sunday, assuming readings are good. Using plastic bottles so reckon that the brew would have to be waaay under-done to result in explosions. Sounds like that's v unlikely.

Thanks again,
KP

Just to add that I've just finished bottling and the SG was spot on and it tasted really, really great. Wow, I'm very excited about the prospect of it getting even better! Thanks again.

KP
