As it says in the title, does anybody have a local supplier for their CO2? I have seen the thread on suppliers in the Central Belt and will maybe travel there at a push, but it would be great if someone could let me know if there is somewhere more local.

Hobbyweld have agents in Dundee but the price quoted was extortionate and much more than Hobbyweld's RRP. I think I have tried everywhere I could think of in the area that does food-grade CO2 but to no avail. Air Products also very expensive. Going to go with Russell Gas in Stirling. £2.80 monthly rental and £16 fill-up.

Ridiculous you have to go to the Central Belt, but I suppose it won't be a regular trip.

Out of interest, what were you quoted? I use Hobbyweld (presently in Dumfries, formerly in Portree) & the lack of a rental charge seems to make it quite economical. I'm not totally sure, but I think my last 6kg cylinder cost about £30 (but they last for ages).

Hobbyweld say £65 and £35 for the gas. The agent in question quoted £133. £65 refills. That expensive I am convinced he was looking at the wrong prices.

For anyone in Tayside it is a no-brainer to get to Stirling to Russell's.

I head up to my caravan at Blair Atholl most weekends (from Tillicoultry) and could meet you at the Broxden roundabout if you like, simply pay over the phone and I will pick it up, may be of interest to mickdundee also

Allsons in Glenrothes £85 including canister deposit and first fill. £20 for refills, I think. I'm in Dunfermline, so go to Livingston where it was £40 all in, £5 refill!

I don't keg but a couple of folk at the home brew club in Perth do and I'm pretty certain they get their gas from Stirling. I'll ask and get back to you.

EDIT/UPDATE - Just checked our FB group and as I thought both the chaps that are kegging get their CO2 from Russels in Stirling.

@PerthRod - Just noting your location, if you're interested there's a newly established hombrew club that meets in the new Brewdog bar, last Sunday of every month at 3pm. It's on this Sunday coming.

That's very kind of you to offer but I'll be heading to Russell's at some point in the coming week. Cheers all the same!

Sorry,
just noticed your reply....................I had heard about the club from one of the bar staff in the Brew Dog - I work some weekends but will try to get along at some point. Thanks.

Hi,

Where in Livingston do you go?

I use Russel gas in Camelon, I'm sure they make the prices up on the spot each time!

Cheers,

Went to Russell's in Stirling and I can thoroughly recommend them. £2.60 a month rental (a paid a year up front) and £16.15 for a refill. Really friendly and helpful service. They were really shocked that I had to go that for for gas given the dearth of options in Tayside.

Thanks for the heads up on Lothian Supply company. What a great price for CO2, price still £40 for a full bottle and £5 for refills.

Late last year I’m sure I paid around £80 or £90 for a Hobbyweld bottle in Inverkeithing and refills are about the same price I just got a full bottle for today.

Resurrecting an old thread, but somebody might search for this in future.

I’m finally going “full corny” on my birthday in a fortnight. After emailing Taygas and D&A Factors last weekend and then phoning each 3 times through the week without getting an answer, I contacted Randolph Gas in Kirkcaldy after seeing them advertise on Facebook Marketplace. They replied almost immediately and it feels like good customer service already.

They are a Hobbyweld dealer so It’s £65 one off deposit and £36 a refill which is a fair bit more expensive than Russel in Stirling but much more convenient for me (35miles compared to 65)

I’m going over on the 27th, will try and pair it with a trip to Crafty Maltsters.

Also to add to thread back from the dead.
