I am thinking about transfering my wherry (which has finished fermenting) into a corny and leaving it outside for a couple of nights in the cold to see if it clears it. The beer and corny itself would also be nice and cold too too aid forced carbonation in a couple of days time when hopefully if would be clear. Thats the plan anyway.

Would this be ok? Would it work? Would it be too cold??

I dont fancy using finings  .

Cheers :drink: .

No reason why you cannot do it - I leave all my beer in my unheated garage and the beer drops nice and clear.

It might take more than a couple of nights to drop crystal but it will do it eventually.

I agree with D, i recently made and drunk a Wherry, i kept mine outside in shed. And it took about 4 weeks to drop crystal clear.

If you clear it and then force carb it by shaking won't that make it cloudy again :wha:

I've always conditioned my Wherry's in the cold shed, -3c in there the other night, not good for the PET's and barrels so there in the FV cupboard.
I find it takes a good four weeks to condition and become clear, leave it a couple of months and in bottles I find I get the best of of it. JMHO

So would it be best to force carbonate it first - and then leave it to clear in the shed? Or does it need to be clear before putting it in the keg at all due to the dead yeast? In which case it would have to be cleared in second FV (in the shed) before transfering to the keg for forced carbonating???

:hmm:

Can't help John, I've tried one wherry in a youngs cheap barrel and it never really cleared, probably down to me adding co2 bulbs when it was cold last December. My first and last brews where bottled and it really helped it to clear and it conditioned well.
Now I have cornies, think I may add some finnings if only gelatine before putting in the corny, maybe even prime the corny instead of force carbing it, obviously the first pint or two would be foggy.......

......No thinking about it, I put it in bottles again :wha:

Bugger only have four bottles left, better get to wilko's

Sorry to ramble, I've had a few ;)

I decided to rack both the wherry and the coopers stout into corny's. I added enough co2/ pressure to seal them and burped the air out of them.

Now they are outside. I will leave them in the shed and try to forget about them for a while.

Hopefully this will give the stout time to mature in flavour, and the wherry a chance to clear.

Hope it works out well!

I generally leave my beers in the shed. Quite cold, and i "forget" about them. Normally gives them some time to mature, which is a bonus :D

Just don't leave them randomly in the back garden. Don't want the neighbourhood cats coming over for a house party in your back garden where the drinks on you :p

Cat's don't have opposable thumbs so I think the would struggle to get the disconnect on, let alone our a pint  .

I take you point though if they where in a FV. These are in corny's with the lids presssure sealed so they should be ok. will be going into the shed tonight.
