Cider not starting

Hi all

I am still relatively new to home brew. I have done about 10 kits and all been great. Last night I started a cider kit and usually the next day it's bubbling away in the air lock, this morning nothing.

I have attached a picture does this look normal? I'm scared it's not going to start.

That looks started to me. Don't worry about the airlock. Looks like you have that in a bucket and there's probably a leak around the lid.

Our houses have cooled down a lot so fermentation takes longer to start and finish, keep the lid on and your fingers crossed.

Thanks will I have done any damage by taking lid off to take picture

You should be fine. Try not to do it too often though!

CO2 produced by fermentation protects your wine so the less you lift the lid the better.

If you are using a FV and want to know if its still fermenting put your ear against the side near the top, you'll be surprised how much noise it makes.
