Thanks for the replies from all of you. I have no other place to sanitize my carboys than the shower. All are mains here, and no water tank, but the heather. I've left the shower hose in chlorine now for a while. Is it ok to use it together with no rinse starsan?

I forgot. Between the wall and the shower there are plastic hoses, one for hot and one for cold water. Could that be a problem?

If I use the shower and starsan, will not starsan kill all the bacterias?

Water for the brew I can get from the kitchen tap.
 
It's possible, but the carboy dosen't fit in the sink, and under the tap. I guess I can fill water in the brew pot and then transfer it to the carboy. The brew pot is 18 liters.

Anyone else doing it this way?
 
To sanitise containers I tend to make up about 2 litres of sterilising fluid, pout it into my container and seal it, give it a good shake, then watch the box or something while i slowly rotate in on it's side for 10 mins or so, and occasionally tipping it up and down so all the inside gets a good coating in the fluid. Making enough solution to fill the container seems a waste to me. Note though that I only use this method on containers that are pretty clean to start with, if they were soiled then I'd fill them with solution and leave to soak.
 
Thanks for the tip. Do you rotate it on the floor? I would rather not do that unless I sanitize the floor first. The lid would come in contact with the floor where I have to grab it to open it.

Above is very similar to what I do. You don't need to fill the carboy, I tend to fill things up with a gallon or 2 of water and then add the appropriate amount of VWP. Obviously any sterilising agent is fine in the correct dose.

Things don't need to be immersed in fluid, they just need to make direct contact and be allowed the necessary time to do its work.

I actually do 2-3 FVs with the same sanitising solution. When the first FV is done I syphon into the next, thus sterilising the syphon at the same time. I then wash the solution around the 2nd FV, give it time to do its thing and then syphon into the next :D

If it's just a DJ that was clean to start with then I'll just hold it and rotate/shake it for a couple of mins.

With anything bigger I'll usually just sit on a kitchen chair with it on my lap, with any protuding lip just hanging over the edge.

Make sure the lid's on tight first though ;p

The advantage of this is that is gets the inside of the lid too if it's a brewing bucket.
 
only the inside, which will come into contact with your drink needs to be sterile.
the outside should be clean, but doesn't need to be sterile, as liquid won't be in contact with it.
 
Yes, but I have to touch the side of the lid when opening it, so I would rather not have that in contact with the floor.
 
quite right - but you have to stop somewhere. You can't sterilise the entire room, nor should you try to.
optimise the time taken, and the cleanliness, and sterility of equipment against the risk of an infection from the area your concentrating on.
no need to go overboard.
